The ten most-praised independent burger joints in Barcelona, ranked by how often the city's best-known food guides recommend them — no chains allowed.
This ranking reflects what Barcelona's food guides were saying as of mid-2026 — burger joints open, close, and reinvent themselves fast, so check hours and locations before you go. No third-party photos are embedded here for copyright reasons; every entry links to the spot's own website or Instagram, where the real (and mouth-watering) pictures live.
How This Ranking Was Built
This is not my personal top ten — it's the internet's. I aggregated four of the most-cited "best burgers in Barcelona" guides and ranked each spot by how many of them recommend it, so the order reflects alleged popularity rather than my taste. The four sources: Tracatrà's 2025 ranking[1], Un Buen Día en Barcelona's 30-spot list from May 2026[2], Barcelona Food Experience's guide[3], and Plate Selector's long-standing selection[4]. Ties are broken by average position across the lists that feature the spot.
Two ground rules shaped the field. First, no chains of any kind — Vicio, Goiko, Timesburg and friends are disqualified no matter how many lists they chart on; every entry here is an independent local business (a couple have grown to two or three locations, which I've allowed). Second, only spots appearing in at least two of the four guides made the cut, so a single blogger's pet favorite can't sneak in. One honesty note: Tracatrà's list puts their own bar at #1 — I've treated that entry as self-promotion and ignored it.

Geographically, the list clusters around a few neighborhoods — useful if you're planning a crawl:
1. Chivuo's
The only spot to appear in all four guides, and it's been earning that consensus since 2014. Chivuo's calls what it does "slow street food": burgers and sandwiches built on quality veal, house-baked bread, and house-made sauces, paired with a rotating craft-beer selection. The signature move is the pulled-pork burger, cooked at low temperature for around 18 hours before it lands on the bun[4]. Started in Gràcia (Torrent de l'Olla 175), it now also has spots in Raval and Poblenou. See the menu and photos at chivuos.com or @chivuos, and find it on the map.
2. Fast Eddie's
Fast Eddie's is Barcelona's best lockdown story: Edward White started by delivering twenty fried-chicken burgers a week out of his apartment, and grew that into two storefronts (Carders 6 in El Born, Joaquim Costa 56 in Raval). The menu is five items — cheeseburger, fried chicken sandwich, fish sandwich and little else — executed until they sell out, most days before closing time[3]. 3. Big Al's
Big Al's American Kitchen (Còrsega 178) is the city's shrine to the American diner burger: freshly ground, locally sourced beef on just-baked brioche, curly fries on the side, and twelve taps of local craft beer[3]. It expanded to Barcelona after making its name in Sitges, and it keeps the menu playful — the Fat Elvis comes with peanut butter and banana, and finishing the Widowmaker challenge burger gets you on the wall. No reservations; go early on weekends. Find it on Google Maps.
4. De Paula
De Paula, "l'hamburgueseria del Poble Sec" (Creu dels Molers 65, plus a Gràcia location), is the neighborhood-legend entry — Un Buen Día en Barcelona ranks it #1 outright[2]. The angle is Brazilian: picanha (rump cap) burgers, with the Copacabana — picanha and smoked mozzarella — as the house classic[3]. Menu at depaula.cat, photos at @depaulabcn, map here.
5. Hideout
Hideout claims the title of first smash-burger joint in Spain, and nobody seems to dispute it. Founders Beatriz and Lucas brought the style from São Paulo to the Eixample (Consell de Cent 242, now also Poblenou), smashing thin, crusty-edged patties finished with their creamy cheese sauce[1]. Given how thoroughly the smash wave has since conquered the city, this is where it started. Menu at hideout-burger.com, photos at @hideout.burger, map here.
6. Two Patties
Two Patties (Guillem Tell 51) is the most radical menu on this list: one cheeseburger — double patty, ultra-smashed, no pickles — plus fries and smashed desserts, from the people behind the Mantequerías Pirenaicas gourmet shops and former Moto2 rider Gabriel Rodrigo. The beef comes from a single farm (La Bassola, Castellterçol), and regulars know there's an off-menu bacon cheeseburger with caramelized onion. Tracatrà ranks it #2 in the city[1]. See twopatties.es and @twopattiesburger, and find it on the map.
7. Machaka
Machaka is the smash specialist that keeps multiplying — Balmes, Consell de Cent, and Carrer de Sants 126 — on the strength of a perfected technique and the biggest Instagram following on this list (43K at @machakaburger). The wildcard is the Angry Birds crispy-chicken burger[2]. Menu at machakaburger.es, map here.
8. La Real
La Real has been building "elegant" burgers since 2017 — meat from the Mercat del Ninot, bread from a master baker, and everything made from scratch, down to the ketchup. The raclette burger and parmesan fries are the crowd favorites[3]. Its Eixample original spawned a stall at the Time Out Market in Port Vell (Maremagnum), which is as close as this list gets to an institutional seal of approval. Menu at larealbcn.com, photos at @larealbcn, locations on the map.
9. Bar Torpedo
Bar Torpedo (Aribau 143, plus Diputació 301) is what happens when Rafa Peña — the chef behind the acclaimed Gresca — decides a bar should serve one great burger, natural wine, and bravas until well past 1 a.m., with arcade machines in the corner[3]. There's essentially a single burger option, and that confidence is the point. It's the list's best answer to the question "where do Barcelona's own cooks go for a burger after service?" 10. Bemba
Bemba Smash Burger (Encarnació 38, Gràcia) describes itself as "smash de barrio, sin pretensiones" — neighborhood smash, no pretensions — and the tiny, usually packed room backs that up. The short menu runs four burgers including a vegetarian option and gluten-free buns, with the chorizo-and-beef Bemba Burger as the one to order[2][3]. No reservations; takeout is the local move. How to Use This List
If you only have one shot, the safe money is Chivuo's — four out of four guides can't all be wrong. If you want the city's current obsession, go smash: Hideout for the original, Two Patties or Machaka for the refinement. And if your idea of a burger involves a wine list, Bar Torpedo is the pick. The real takeaway is that Barcelona's best burgers live in small, stubborn, single-idea places — not in the chains papering the city with billboards. Eat accordingly.
