Privacy Policy

This site is a personal blog by Pere Pages (pearpages). This page explains what data is collected, how, and the choices you have.

Analytics​

The site uses two analytics tools:

  • Umami, a self-hosted, cookieless audience-measurement tool. It runs for every visitor.
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which uses cookies. It runs only if you accept it on the cookie banner.

Audience measurement (Umami)​

The site counts visits with Umami, an open-source tool that I host myself at analytics.pearpages.com. It only produces aggregate statistics: how many people visit, which pages they read, and where they come from.

  • No cookies and no local storage: Umami stores nothing on your device.
  • No personal data kept: your IP address is used only to derive an approximate country and a visit identifier that cannot be traced back to you, and it is never stored.
  • Nothing shared: the data is not sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising or profiling. It is kept on the servers that run my Umami instance (Vercel and Neon, in the EU), which process it only on my behalf.

What it records for each page view: the page address, the referring site, the browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and approximate country.

Because this is anonymous audience measurement that stores nothing on your device, it does not need your consent and runs whether or not you accept the cookie banner.

Google Analytics 4​

GA4 helps me understand how visitors use the site in more detail — which pages are read, how people arrive, and which links and features get used. This helps improve the content.

  • Measurement ID: G-P67FN33CRC
  • IP anonymization: enabled — your IP address is truncated by Google before storage, so it is not stored in full.

What is collected​

When analytics is enabled, GA4 collects standard, aggregate usage data such as:

  • Pages visited and time on page
  • Approximate location (country/region), derived from the anonymized IP
  • Device, browser, and operating system
  • Referral source (how you reached the site)
  • Interactions the site reports as events: outbound link clicks, code-snippet copies, site searches, and clicks on resource links

No sign-in is required and the site does not ask for your name, email, or any other directly identifying information for analytics purposes.

Cookies​

When you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets cookies (for example _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish visitors and sessions. These are set only after you consent.

Your choices — consent​

Google Analytics is governed by Google Consent Mode. Until you choose Accept on the cookie banner, analytics_storage is set to denied: no analytics cookies are set and Google Analytics sends no data. You can decline, and Google Analytics stays off. The cookieless Umami measurement described above is not affected by this choice.

You can change your decision at any time:

This clears your stored choice and reloads the page so the consent banner appears again.

Data processor and retention​

Google Analytics data is processed by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services. You can also install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
